ROM And User Library

When you install MU.LAB on your computer, MU.LAB comes with a library full of sounds and effects. This is called the ROM library.

When playing with the MuSynth, MUX, Synthia, MuVerb etc and editing the ROM presets, you will come up with nice new sounds and effects that you want to save.

You can save these sounds and effects using the "Save Preset" and "Save Preset As" buttons at the top of the editor. These presets will be saved in the User Library.

You could also choose to "Save Preset As". Then a popup dialog appears where you can input a new name for the preset. But you can also indicate in which category folder you want to save the preset by preceding the name with the category folder name(s):

Preset Packs

Creating A Preset Pack

If you want you can create a sub-folder in your User Library to collect a bunch of presets you want to share with other users. Save all the presets you want to collect into that sub-folder, then zip that sub-folder and share it.

Note that if you use samples in these presets, then there are 2 ways of including them:

  • Make sure they're set as 'Embedded', see main Edit menu -> Sample Manager. This means the samples will be embedded within the preset files. Be aware that this will greatly increase the file size of the presets.
  • Put all samples you're going to use inside a 'Samples' sub-folder inside the pack sub-folder, create the presets, and save them in the pack sub-folder. MU.LAB will make sure the samples are referenced relatively and so they will be retrievable when loading the preset on another system.

Installing A Preset Pack

When you have downloaded a preset pack from someone else, then here is how to install it:

For MuSynth preset packs:

  • Unzip the zip file to a new folder
  • Drop that folder into your Mulab/User/Library/MuSynth sub-folder

For MUX preset packs:

  • Unzip the zip file to a new folder
  • Drop that folder into your Mulab/User/Library/MUX sub-folder

The new presets will be visible in the preset list the next time you open the editor, or when having done preset name -> context menu -> "Refresh Preset List".
