MuLab 4 Docs Using Drum Loop Samples

With MuLab 4 you can easily use sampled drum loops, even if they have a different tempo than your current composition.

The main start point is Session menu -> Import Sample Loop. This function will load a drum loop, automatically slice it, and insert it at the last used edit location in the composer. Also when dropping a short audio file on the composer, MuLab will slice it into a sliced sample part. ("short" is defined by the DroppedAudioFilesLengthThreshold preference)

More in detail: MuLab will load the sample into RAM and analyze it and automatically create locators at the drum hits in the loop. Then it will also create a sequence part which plays these sequence nicely in tempo. Note that when the sample file already contains locators, MuLab won't auto-slice that sample, it will assume the existing locators are good and use these.

Although the MuLab 4 auto-slicer works quite accurately, automatically slicing up a drum loop is not always 100% perfect, that's normal as audio is a complex form of data. In case you want to manually finetune the slices used to match this loop into your composition, right-click the sliced sample part -> Edit Sample. This will open the Audio Lab where you can move, copy, insert and remove locators until you get perfect slices. Then when you're done finetuning the slices, right-click the sample display -> Update Sliced Sample Part. This will update the sequence as well as the multisample which are used to get the loop in the groove. Of course both context functions are shortcuttable.

Of course you can also edit the sliced sample sequence in full detail in the Sequence Editor, for example to quantize the slices to the current grid, or to rearrange the slices, and much more! And as the slices are available as a multisample you can apply a pitch and or filter envelope on them and much more. By using the MUX you can even process individual slices completely modularly!

All functions to slice up a drum loop sample into a sliced sample part are also available via the sample context menu and thus can also be applied on samples not loaded via the "Import Sample Loop" function.
